Diatomaceous Earth Silica Supplementation

One of the reasons for taking Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is for a detox/cleanse. Another major reason for using DE is for silica supplementation.

In 1972 Silica, was recognized as an essential trace mineral for the human body. It is still the missing ingredient in many anti-aging programs.

Silica is found in connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and blood vessels. In addition it is present in the heart, liver and lungs.

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is a good source of silica. For optimal results DE should be between 85 and 92 percent silica. Beware of some brands that contain as much as 37% clay, reducing the amount of silica available.

There are differences in how much each person will absorb and assimilate. An individual’s hydrochloric acid reserve as well as their intestinal enzymes combined with metabolism rate and GI tract health affect how trace minerals are absorbed.

Even if only a small amount of the DE is absorbed and assimilated, it still has many health benefits.

These include:

• Chelates and detoxifies heavy metals from the body.

• In Europe, some of the silica-deficit diseases treated with DE include hypertension, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, dermatitis, joint and bone pain, wrinkles, weak and thin connective tissue, as well as thinning hair, nails, and bones.

• Although DE contains minute amounts of aluminum it is bound in the silica as aluminum silicate. Silica has been found to therapeutically reduce the amount of aluminum in brain nerve cells. Though controversial, aluminum has been speculated to be one of the causes of Alzheimer’s.

• European scientist, Zeller and Odler believe that non-crystalline silicon dioxide is a natural cancer defender. Silica strengthens the ability of the connective tissue to form a defensive barrier for warding off cancer causing free-radical cells. Silica also helps to prevent cell degeneration of cells while simultaneously providing cell regeneration.

• Supports the structure, integrity and permeability of blood vessels and arteries. Elasticity of the arterial walls are essential in absorbing the variations in blood pressure.

We are born with an abundance of silica and low amounts of calcium. As we age the amount of calcium increases as the amount of silica decreases. To compound this situation, many mature individuals increase their calcium intake. Increasing calcium while the supply of silica decreases causes soft tissues to become stiff and lose elasticity.

Silica is more easily assimilated with a small amount of apple cider vinegar.
