100% Pure Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (FGDE) consists of 90 to 94% Silica (silicon dioxide) and other trace minerals. It is completely natural, without added ingredients.
Some Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth products are inaccurately labeled organic, only agriculturally raised plants and animals can be certified organic.
However, Food Grade Diatomaceous can be OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) listed and is approved for use on organic produce and livestock farms. This is most likely the source of confusion.
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is not actually earth or dirt. It is the fossilized remains of one-celled aquatic plants. There are different grades of DE. Of the 600 deposits in the USA, only four are considered food grade.
The Silica in Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is very beneficial to people and their pets.
